5 Steps to Rid Yourself of Writer's Block

Whether you are working online writing articles, trying to keep up with a blog, writing a paper for school, or any other type of writing; writer’s block is a pest and comes on at the most inconvenient time. Do you experience writer’s block?

It seems like the more you try to concentrate and get your writing done, the more the block fights you till you give up to come back to your project later. This is never a good thing. It will put your schedule behind. Here is a list of things that will allow you to fight that pesky writer’s block monster. Get rid of writers block with these steps.

Step 1: Make Time for Writing

It is essential to write as much as possible. It will allow you to produce work even when you experience some technical difficulties with your mind. You may ask how, well, let me tell you. Let us use the example of driving. When you began driving, you had to put extra brain power into actually performing this activity. Over time, driving has become easy to do because you use less brain power. It has become more of a habit rather than a task. Everything that we do in our daily life can fall subject to becoming habit instead of something we must truly concentrate on. Now don’t get me wrong. Writing will require brain power at all times of course, but at least you will be able to produce some work and come back to it later for editing purposes. The more you write, the better you will become and the less you will feel that impossible writer’s block.

Step 2: Analyze and Re-Read

Make note of when you experience writers block. Is it during the night time hours? Are you subject to writers block during the morning hours? When does it seem to affect you more? You may be experiencing more stress in your daily life; in this case relaxation is essential for you to function at normal capacity. Make note and try to avoid additional pressure of trying to write during these hours and see if that will help you become more productive during the hours you are able to write.

Step 3: Kick Start Your Brain

Just as any muscle of the body, our brains need to warm up as well. You may need to use a few minutes before you begin writing on your project to read other sources of information. It does not have to be news related or anything educational; however, it does need to stimulate your thought process. Grab a cup of coffee and read up on what is happening in your favorite genre of music or even read up on how to avoid writers block (wink, wink).

Step 4: Write From the Heart
Don't roll your eyes. This is a very true statement right here. Imagine yourself in a group of people talking about the political views of the African gofer frog. (Ok, yes I know, not real. But it sounds boring, right?) You are not very passionate about this frog. Matter of fact your brain starts to tune out the conversation and once it is your turn to input an intelligent remark or question, your brain flat lines. However, say your favorite band just played at the concert hall and you were able to attend; the conversation about this would spark a bit of passion inside. You would be able to input till you start working the nerves of the group. So, writing from the heart means that you need to write about subjects that you are passionate about. You will have more to say, the structure will be of a higher quality, and you will rock the computer screen.

Step 5: Relax

Uh oh, did I say that? Fuck yes I did! Over working you mind will cause it to just go on autopilot. This is never a good thing when you have a project deadline that is so close. Never procrastinate and never over work yourself. Have you ever heard someone say, "My brain is fried." This is due to over working their mental power. They are no longer able to function mentally on a normal level. Writers block is the direct result of overworking your mind. Stress falls under this category as well. If you are very stressed out, your "brain is fried" and you can not think straight. Relax. Partake in some greasy take-out and watch a good movie if this will relax you. Come back to your project after the credits and watch your fingers go to town on your keyboard. Get rid of writers block with small measures and soon you will be a pro and write a novel while you sleep. (OK, that's stretching it. But you get the point.)
